for recyclable packaging films.
Topic of the work:
As part of the research project, a new type of system design for the inline-capable coating of plastic films was developed and built as a prototype. The topic of your work is the investigation of multi-chamber vacuum systems with an open gap.

The work is related to the research project “In-Plasma-Air2Air”
It deals with the development of a new, low-maintenance reactor for coating recyclable plastic films. The recycling-compatible plasma coating process is to be opened up for the packaging film market through a series of measures to improve economic efficiency.
Objective:
The aim of your work is to carry out empirical tests for the novel reactor concept in order to define the process space and derive performance indicators for scaling the system. The results are interpreted in comparison with the specialist literature and empirical values from systems already established at IKV.
For a Bachelor's thesis | you work on the following tasks: | For a Master's thesis | you also work on these tasks: |
Familiarisation with the existing system technology under the guidance of your supervisor | recording of relevant process characteristics that affect the economic efficiency of the system | ||
Conducting experiments and analyzing measurements to set a barrier effect | calculating an industrial scaling scenario using the collected data |
Your profile
- In principle, all technical degree programs in Faculty 4 and other technical or scientific degree programs are eligible.
- Experience in the planning and execution of experiments is desirable, but not a prerequisite.
- It is important to be motivated to familiarize yourself with scientific issues and to test them in experiments, to actively deal with any obstacles that arise and to communicate openly within the working group.
- In return, we offer the opportunity to actively shape innovative technical solutions for the promotion of sustainable packaging concepts and to become part of a motivated team.
