Release agent-free practice compass: Guidelines and training development for release agent-free demolding processes

Bachelor’s thesis or project work

The aim of this work is to develop a guideline along the process chain of release agent-free PUR processing and to derive a training module from this.

Guideline and training development

Topic of the work:

This work supports companies in making the transition from conventional, release agent-based PUR processes to release agent-free processes. The starting point is the current practice in PU processing with established processes, which are characterized by high cleaning and set-up costs and limited transparency with regard to the achievable CO₂ savings potential. The focus is on the evaluation of typical PUR applications – for example foamed lightweight components or FRP components – with regard to their suitability for release agent-free demolding processes. In addition, the organizational and personnel requirements in the companies will be examined to ensure that the introduction of permanent tool coatings is not only technologically feasible, but can also be anchored in production, maintenance and quality assurance in the long term.

Objective:

The aim of the work is to develop a cross-hierarchical guideline in a DIN-like structure that systematically describes the requirements for personnel, process management, tool design, material selection and quality assurance along the process chain of release agent-free PUR processing and thus supports companies in the conversion from processes with release agents to release agent-free processes. Building on this, the content of the guidelines will be translated into a practical training module. This is intended to provide differentiated learning objectives and suitable formats for decision-makers, managers and executives and thus effectively ensure the transfer of knowledge from the guidelines to everyday industrial production.

Your task:

  • Familiarization with the objectives and the intended structure of the guideline (scope, normative references, terms, competence requirements, processing, quality assurance)
  • Derivation of cross-hierarchical learning and competence objectives
  • Conception of a training module
  • Development of prototype materials (e.g. questionnaire for evaluating a company’s product portfolio)

Your profile:

  • Interest in plastics technology and reactive systems (PUR, FRP) as well as in production processes with release agent-free demolding
  • Enjoy the structured preparation of technical content in the form of guidelines, standard-like documents or process descriptions
  • Interest in didactic design (workshops, training courses, learning objectives) and cross-hierarchical qualification in an industrial environment
  • Strong interest in sustainability-oriented issues, especially in reducing CO₂ emissions and increasing efficiency in production processes
  • Independent and structured way of working

Preferred study programs:

  • Mechanical engineering / industrial engineering, specialising in mechanical engineering
  • Automation technology
  • General mechanical engineering
  • Computational Engineering Science (CES)
  • Industrial engineering, specialising in materials and process engineering
  • Environmental engineering
