daily use, so knowledgeable planning and design of the molded part and tool is an absolute prerequisite. The course &#8220;Tools for plastics processing I&#8221; teaches the theoretical knowledge and proven rules for thermal and mechanical design in order to be able to efficiently produce functional, cost-effective components that meet all requirements. <\/p>\n<h3>Contents of the lecture<\/h3>\n<p>The lecture begins with an introduction to the functional complexes of injection molds. Building on this, the demolding system, guiding and centering, the sprue and temperature control system and the mold cavity are explained in detail. In addition to the detailed description of conventional tools, all common special injection molding processes are also considered from a tool technology perspective. For example, in addition to micro injection molding, injection compression molding, which is used for optics and automotive glazing, is also presented. The focus is on the particular tooling challenges of thermoplastic molding compounds, but the processing of cross-linking molding compounds, such as liquid silicone rubbers, is also described and explained. The thermal and mechanical design of an injection mold is a basic prerequisite for efficient production and is therefore a key focus of the lecture. Analytical and numerical methods for the thermal and mechanical design of injection molds are presented. This is the basis for a sensible tool design. The lecture &#8220;Tools for plastics processing II&#8221; provides the most important foundations for this.  <\/p>\n<h3>Contents of the lecture<\/h3>\n<p>The lecture provides a comprehensive overview of the different types of extrusion dies and the associated methods for designing the dies. First, the basics of mathematical modeling of the flow in extrusion dies are introduced. The focus here is on the derivation of the flow equations and the rheology of polymer melts. Various industrially relevant die types are then explained. Both mono- and co-extrusion dies for thermoplastics and rubber extrusion dies are covered. The appropriate design of the various tool types is also discussed. Another topic is calibration.
