However, the bond strength between plastic and fiber reinforcements is a critical weak point. The temperature history in the area of the bonding surfaces during production has a significant influence on the bonding strength, as do the residual stresses induced by the process, which can promote premature failure.<\/p>\n\n\n<figure class=\" relative flex flex-col gap-2xs mb-xs md:mb-l xl:mb-xl\"><img decoding=\"async\"  class=\" w-full  \"  src=\"https:\/\/ikv-aachen.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/Stuwi-Entwicklung-von-innovativer-Messtechnik-zur-Strukturanalyse.png\" srcset=\"\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1536px) 100vw, 1536px\" width=\"387\" height=\"207\" alt=\"Stuwi Entwicklung von innovativer Messtechnik zur Strukturanalyse\" loading=\"lazy\" \/><span class=\" text-copyright order-3 justify-end text-right w-full  w-full \">&copy; IKV<\/span><figcaption class=\" w-full  text-figcaption justify-end text-right \">Fig. 1: Premature failure at the interface between locally reinforced fiber-reinforced polymer and the base structure<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An innovative measuring technique developed at IKV enables the temperature history to be recorded directly in the connection area using fiber optic measuring equipment. Here, the backscatter pattern of a light pulse in an optical conductor is used for high-precision strain measurement. This technology is already being used in the field of structural health monitoring. This method is now to be applied to the injection molding process in practice in order to analyze both the thermal conditions and the resulting residual stresses in component production. The aim is to use the data obtained to calibrate and validate models for predicting bond strength.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The work is written in this working group:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Fiber Reinforced Plastics\/Dimensioning\/CAE Methods working group focuses on the development of new measurement methods, experimental characterization and simulation-based optimization of high-performance components made of fiber-reinforced plastics. The combination of innovative measurement technology and modeling offers an interdisciplinary platform for dealing with current issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Objective:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The aim of this work is to experimentally test a novel areal measurement method for recording the temperature history and residual stresses in the bonding area of fiber reinforcements in injection molded components.
