On April 16, another workshop of the H2 Business and Technology Forum took place at the IKV.
Another workshop of the H2 Business and Technology Forum took place at IKV on April 16. The workshop provided a platform for companies and experts from the plastics industry and the hydrogen economy to discuss and present the latest developments in hydrogen technologies.
Before the first networking break, Marie Hadenfeldt, research associate at IKV, presented insightful highlights from the market and technology monitoring, which is made available to forum participants on an ongoing basis. The presentation included updates on hydrogen regulations at European and global level as well as technical innovations relating to components in fuel cell systems (balance of plant).
Another item on the workshop agenda was welcoming the new forum members Continental, DuPont, Witzenmann Group and ZEON Europe GmbH. Felicitas Boerner (Witzenmann) and Patrick Neider (ZEON) presented their companies and their activities in the field of hydrogen in short, informative pitches and formulated their expectations of the forum.
Before the lunch break, the participants were also given an exciting insight into the possibilities of using hydrogen in aviation by Alexander Görtz from the German Aerospace Center (DLR).
“For a “non-polymer person” like me, it was great to stick my head out of the hydrogen cloud and experience what is possible with modern polymer materials and processing technologies. For some components, the cost and performance potential is truly groundbreaking.”
Jan Gustav Grolig (Stargate Hydrogen)
Stina Rahnel from Stargate Hydrogen presented current developments and the advantages of injection moulding for cost reduction in the stack production of alkaline electrolysers. There were intensive discussions about challenges and solutions for scaling plastic components for the coming generations of electrolysers.
bielomatik GmbH (speaker Beatrice Maus) presented special machine construction for the rotomolding of large-volume H2 liners as well as joining technologies and quality management for the welding of H2 liners for series production.
After the lunch break, the workshop continued with further informative presentations:
Ruth Jackowiak from DuPont presented extensive test results on the improvement of polyimides for use in hydrogen atmospheres and the use of high-performance thermoplastics in valve technology. This showed how important plastics technology is for relevant interfaces in hydrogen technologies.
Finally, Waterstuff&Sun, represented by Lukas Kalt, presented an innovative pressure storage solution for hydrogen storage based on innovative valve technology, including the idea of stationary changing of a “hydrogen battery”.
The workshop offered a unique opportunity for companies and experts to discuss the latest developments and challenges in the field of hydrogen technologies and to work together on innovative solutions.
