Project partners develop solution for new requirements for digital exams
The digitalisation of academic teaching places new demands on examination formats. While many examinations are already conducted electronically, there are still task formats that remain paper-based. In order to integrate these efficiently into digital examinations, known as e-exams, the Centre for Teaching and Learning Services (CLS) at RWTH Aachen University is working with Covestro to develop a special scanner that is being manufactured at IKV.

In January, Rainer Protte from Covestro and Marcus Gerards and Wolfram Barodte from CLS visited IKV to discuss the current status of the project. The housing components of the scanner are manufactured at the institute using injection moulding. The project partners have opted for Bayblend® T65XF (PC/ABS) – a material from project partner Covestro that qualifies for this project due to its mechanical and optical properties. The project is being supervised at IKV by Jan Wolters and Sebastian Schwan, both research associates in the Injection Moulding department at IKV. They led the meeting of the partners and have already produced several live prototypes of the scanner housing.
»A step towards fully digitalised exam recording«
After production at IKV, the housing components are transferred to RWTH and assembled there. The aim is to provide a reliable solution for recording paper-based examination components and thus further advance the digitalisation of examination processes.
IKV is pleased to support this innovative project and would like to thank Covestro for providing the material and all project partners for their close and excellent cooperation.
