Bachelor’s Thesis or Master’s Thesis
© IKVThe work is being conducted in this working group
The Plasma and Surface Technology Working Group develops, optimizes, and characterizes plasma-assisted coating processes as well as functional surfaces and thin films.
Objective
The goal is to investigate changes in ignition duration, the spectra recorded via optical emission spectroscopy (OES), and the thickness, composition, and homogeneity of the substrate layers. You will correlate these results with the coating condition of the ignition wires and evaluate possible relationships between plasma behavior and layer formation.
Your Assignment
| For a bachelor's thesis, you will work on the following topics | For a master's thesis, you could also work on the following topics |
| Comparison of Defined Wire Coatings Under Controlled Reactor Wall Conditions | Variation in Coating Composition on the Ignition Wires and Process Parameters |
| Determination of ignition duration using high-speed imaging | In-depth analysis of layer-by-layer structure, e.g., using FT-IR, EDX, and profilometry |
| Acquisition and Comparison of OES Spectra Using the Same Measurement Setup | Long-Term Tests on Spalling, Potential Particle Transfer, and the Effects of Cleaning |
| Analysis of the Thickness, Composition, and Structure of Substrate Layers | |
| Analysis of wire condition, ignition duration, OES, and coating data |
Your Profile
- A degree in a natural science or technical field, such as physics, materials science, or mechanical engineering
- Ability to independently and meticulously address experimental problems
- Knowledge of plasma or coating technology is helpful but not required
- Interest in hands-on experiments and experimental plant engineering
