Project work or research laboratory
© IKVTopic of the work:
The curing of epoxy resins is a complex, temperature-dependent process that significantly influences the subsequent material properties. Precise temperature measurement within the material is necessary for a better understanding of the process and to validate models. Existing measurement approaches are often only suitable to a limited extent, as they either influence the sample or do not offer sufficient spatial or temporal resolution.
Your task is to further develop an existing measuring cell for improved temperature measurement during the curing process.
The work is related to this research project:
The work is embedded in a research project on the analysis and optimization of curing processes for thick-walled fiber composite laminates. The aim is to gain a better understanding of thermal process control and to derive improved manufacturing strategies from this.
These could be your tasks:
| For research laboratory work | For project work |
| Familiarization with the state of the art of temperature measurement in reactive resin systems | See research laboratory work |
| Analysis and evaluation of the existing measuring cell | Advanced design development of the measuring cell |
| Conception and design of improvement approaches (e.g. sensor technology, positioning, insulation) | Independent implementation and validation of optimization concepts |
| Experimental investigation and evaluation of the measurement results | Comparison of different measurement strategies and derivation of recommendations for action |
These are your benefits:
- Combination of practical laboratory work and conceptual development
- Direct insight into current research in the field of polymer and process technology
- Opportunity to contribute your own ideas to the further development of a real measuring system
- Support also provided by assistants from the working group
- Individual coordination of tasks and time frame
- Immediate start possible
- Possible employment as a student assistant after completion of the work
Your profile:
- Technical or scientific studies (CES, mechanical engineering, computer science, …)
- Interest in experimental work and measurement technology
- Initial knowledge of design, sensor technology or data evaluation is an advantage, but not essential
