Topic of the project work / research laboratory:
Electromobility based on fuel cell technology plays a decisive role in achieving the climate targets. In particular, the high costs of hydrogen pressure tanks during production and over their service life are currently hampering the market penetration of hydrogen-powered vehicles. With the final thesis, inline quality control can minimize the occurrence of errors during the manufacturing process and thus reduce the amount of material required per container. In addition, your work can provide you with an understanding of processes and lightweight construction potential!

In this context, the winding process working group is researching inline process monitoring of the wet winding process with a modern, robot-based winding system in order to record and control fiber band geometries and impregnation processes during the production of hydrogen pressure vessels.
These could be your tasks:
- Enabling sensor technology to make inline resin loading measurable
- Research and evaluation of options for analyzing thick-walled laminates produced, such as Common in hydrogen pressure vessels up to 700 bar operating pressure
- Analysis of the formation and propagation of defects in the pressure vessel material through the manufacturing process to reduce material requirements
- Use of innovative and new materials in the wet winding process
