Failure of the Screw Connection Due to Unsuitable Parameters in the Injection Molding Process

Topic of the Thesis:

In the automotive industry, thermoset housing parts are used for control units that have to withstand severe temperature fluctuations and mechanical stress. For technical and economic reasons, developers use screw connections for PCB holders. The design and the way in which the joining partners are manufactured play a key role here: they have a significant influence on the material and component properties and therefore also on the assembly process and the performance of the joint. This shows how important the interaction between material, manufacturing process and joining technology is.

The Thesis is related to following Research Project:

This work is part of a public research project on thermoset direct screwing, which is being carried out in the special materials working group within the injection molding department. The aim of the project is to determine application and production recommendations for thermoset direct screwing.

Objective:

The aim of this thesis is to investigate how different process parameters affect both the assembly process and the long-term properties of directly screwed thermosets.
