Topic of the work:

Injection molding is a cyclical manufacturing process in which plasticized plastic is injected under high pressure into a shaping tool cavity. Cascade injection molding is used in this process to produce large components with long flow paths. This is used in the automotive sector in particular for the production of exterior components such as bumpers and interior components such as instrument panels. Against the background of rising quality requirements and the increased use of recycled materials, the question arises as to how the injection phase influences the resulting component quality.

The work is related to this research project:

You are writing the thesis as part of the “OptiKas” research project, which deals with the injection phase in cascade injection molding. The project aims to develop a routine for achieving a constant flow front speed. The aim is to avoid strong local stagnation and acceleration of the flow front, as these have a negative effect on component quality. This should reduce the amount of waste produced and increase productivity through an efficient set-up process.

Objective:

The aim of your work is to evaluate different materials with regard to their suitability for investigating the influence of flow front velocity on component quality. You will carry out injection molding tests with different materials. Among other things, a recyclate is also to be investigated. You will then examine the manufactured components for different quality features.

Your task:

Development of a test plan for injection molding tests Simulative preselection of suitable materials
Carrying out injection molding tests with different materials, including a recyclate Developing a test plan for injection molding tests
Analysis of the manufactured components Conducting injection molding tests with different materials, including a recyclate
Analysis of the manufactured components

Your profile:

  • Technical or scientific studies
  • Interest in experimental work
  • Motivated and independent way of working

These are your benefits:

  • Work in a young, motivated team
  • Independent work with intensive support
  • Co-design of current research projects
  • Experimental work on industrial plants
