Topic of the work:

The targeted design and implementation of modifications to existing systems represents a central challenge in applied engineering science. The focus is on the analysis and further development of existing machine systems with regard to technical improvement potential, functional enhancements and process optimization. At the same time, feasibility studies are carried out that provide an outlook on the industrial transfer of the solutions developed. IKV conducts research in this area at the interface between mechanical engineering, process engineering and production engineering. We are looking for committed students who want to play an active role in the further development of industry-related plant technology and functions.

The work is written in this working group:

The work is being carried out in the Plasma and Surface Technology research department at IKV. Current research projects are concerned with the constructive further development and modification of existing test systems as well as the systematic evaluation of the feasibility and scalability of new technical solutions in an industrial context.

Objective:

The aim of the work is the systematic analysis, conceptual design and implementation of modifications to existing systems and the evaluation of their technical feasibility with regard to industrial transfer. The focus is on: (1) the identification of optimization potential in existing plant systems, (2) the design development and prototype implementation of modification solutions and (3) the feasibility analyses and derivation of recommendations for industrial scaling and transferability.

Your task:

Literature research on PECVD processes and their application on plastic substrates in the respective context Independent conceptualization of the modification strategy based on literature research and system analysis
Analysis and documentation of the current status of the existing system and identification of optimization potential Development and evaluation of alternative solutions and selection of the optimal modification strategy
Constructive elaboration and implementation of the developed modifications to the existing system Conducting and evaluating feasibility studies with a view to industrial transfer and scalability
Checking the feasibility and validation of the implemented modifications using defined test criteria and experimental tests: Characterization and analysis of deposited functional layers
The results and findings obtained are contextualized, critically reflected upon and documented in writing in the form of a scientific paper.

Your profile:

  • Technical or scientific studies (mechanical engineering, process engineering, materials science, physics, …)
  • Basic knowledge of CAD software and structural design is an advantage
  • Analytical thinking and a structured way of working
  • Experience with practical experiments is helpful
  • Independent processing of complex problems
  • Interest in practical experiments and working with experimental plant technology
  • Interest in characterization and analytical methods

These are your benefits:

  • Work in a young, motivated team
  • Independent work with intensive support
  • Co-design of current research projects
  • Individual coordination of tasks and time frame
  • Experimental work on industrial plants
  • Fast processing, direct contact for questions during processing
  • Varied mix of research, experimental work and analytics (development, simulation, …)
  • Immediate start possible after topic identification
