Design innovative materials and processes to transform fiber-reinforced composites (FRC) sustainably.

Thermoset fiber composites are a discontinued model!” This statement is often repeated for structural components with lightweight construction potential. However, more sustainable and innovative FRP components and processes require a rethink of matrix materials and manufacturing processes. For example, your work can introduce vitrimer epoxies or UV-curing plastics into manufacturing processes such as winding or liquid impregnation in order to obtain thermoset FRPs with previously unrealizable properties for forming or recycling.

In this context, the QA in FRP processes working group is researching the integration of new matrix materials in continuous fiber-reinforced plastics. This application is independent of the manufacturing process and aims to transfer new material developments from research and the laboratory into everyday engineering practice.

Characterization of matrix materials or manufactured components Material Characterization and correlation of processability to quality properties of the components
