Process recycled plastics from landfills into a new component using the injection molding process.

The quality and processing of recyclates in the injection moulding process is crucial for the final component quality. However, it is currently not possible to process pure recyclate, as it is not possible to sort 100% of plastic waste. In addition, the amount of impurities in the recyclate depends on the day/week. In this Bachelor’s or Master’s thesis, artificial intelligence (AI) is therefore to be used to estimate complex material properties based on simple measurements and thus enable modeling in commercial injection moulding simulations. This method enables greater acceptance among manufacturers to make greater use of recycled materials in their components.

Project reference of the work:

This work is anchored in IKV’s guiding theme “Circular economy”. This working group primarily deals with topics relating to digitalisation (Industry 4.0) and materials technology. Here, the work is integrated into the field of digitalisation in order to investigate new methods of material modelling.
