HiWi for the flat film extrusion working group

Sustainability begins in the process: Discover the future of flat film extrusion

Want to experience applied research first-hand? As a student assistant, you will work on practical experiments in the technical centre, investigate surface and process phenomena using modern camera systems, and support ongoing research projects related to extrusion.

About the research area:

Flat film extrusion is a key process in plastics processing and forms the basis for numerous applications in the packaging industry, construction and medical technology, among others. Growing demands on sustainability, material efficiency and product quality place high demands on process control and the design of the molds.

In the “Flat film extrusion and tool design” working group at the Institute of Plastics Processing (IKV) at RWTH Aachen University, we are engaged in the analysis and targeted further development of the extrusion process. The focus is on the processing of new materials, the use of recycled materials and the development of innovative tool concepts with the aim of producing sustainable, high-quality films. In addition to experimental investigations, we are currently developing modern measurement and analysis methods for the systematic recording of process conditions and surface phenomena along the flat film extrusion process.

Your possible tasks:

  • Carrying out practical test series on pilot plants
  • Participation in the image-based investigation and evaluation of surface defects and deposition effects during the extrusion process using a camera system
  • Optical and mechanical testing of film samples
  • Maintenance and construction of system components
  • Collaboration in ongoing scientific research projects

We offer you:

  • Insights into current research issues in plastics technology
  • Flexible working hours taking into account exam periods
  • Independent tasks in a research-oriented working environment
  • Pleasant working atmosphere in an interdisciplinary team
  • Possibility to write final theses
