HiWi in the field of simulation-based product development in plastics technology

Student assistant wanted: Simulation-based product development in plastics engineering

Simulation and data-driven methods in product development

Simulations are a central mould of modern product development. They make it possible to analyze components and processes virtually at an early stage of development, efficiently compare design variants and significantly shorten development times. Especially in plastics technology, where a wide variety of materials, manufacturing processes and application areas come together, you are the basis for structured and data-based product development.

As part of this HiWi activity, you will work on current research projects from various fields of application in plastics technology. These include projects in the context of the hydrogen economy, such as the development of fibre-reinforced pressure accumulators, as well as projects for the design and optimization of plastic components, such as screw connection systems or packaging.

You will support simulation-based product development by setting up and further developing models, carrying out parameter studies and evaluating test data. The aim is to digitally map real components and processes and use data-driven and AI-supported methods to gain insights for product development. You will gain insights into current research topics at the interface of simulation, design and data-driven development.

You are required to do this:

  • Structure and parameterization of FEM models
  • Evaluation and processing of simulation and test data
  • Carrying out parameter studies to evaluate design and process parameters
  • Linking process and simulation data in the context of digital product development
  • Setting up experimental studies to validate the results

What you should bring with you:

  • Independent, structured and autonomous work
  • Technical or scientific degree (mechanical engineering, materials science, or similar)
  • Interest in long-term cooperation

What can you learn in the AG:

  • Independent handling of complex issues
  • Preparation of results and their presentation
  • Dealing with simulation software
