For the research group focusing on foam extrusion, we are looking for a student assistant (8–10 hours/week) starting as soon as possible.
Your Challenge:
The Foam Extrusion working group deals with the production of physically foamed plastic sheets and films. In addition to processing conventional plastics such as PS, PE and PP, a key focus is on processing sustainable, biodegradable plastics such as polylactide (PLA) or thermoplastic starch (TPS). The background to this is that today’s packaging is often made from fossil resources and has to be incinerated after use because it is not biodegradable. A starch-based, biodegradable foam film based on potato or corn starch, for example, is therefore being developed in a current research project.
Your task will be to support the practical implementation of extrusion tests as part of publicly funded research projects and in direct cooperation with industry. You will also be involved in the development of innovative system components, material compositions and process configurations for the foam industry, making packaging and its production more sustainable.
Your possible Tasks:
- Planning, practical implementation and evaluation of the tests on the extrusion line
- Microscopic and mechanical analysis of foam samples
- Construction tasks
- … and much more
Your Profile:
- Independent, conscientious and team-oriented way of working
- Technical or scientific degree (e.g. mechanical engineering, materials science, industrial engineering, environmental engineering, etc.)
- Enjoy practical work
- Interest and willingness to familiarise yourself with a wide range of work areas
- Interest in long-term HiWi work
We offer You:
- Collaboration on sustainable research and industry projects
- Application-oriented and industry-relevant project work
- Flexible working hours (e.g. consideration of exams and tests)
- An open-minded, experienced team with a friendly atmosphere
