Development of an Innovative Approach for Shear Viscosity Determination Using Wall-Sliding Rubber Compounds as an Example
The aim of the research project is to develop a new type of extrusion rheometer that can be used to determine the local pressure along the entire length of the nozzle. This is to be achieved with a membrane half-shell of the rheometer, which deforms under the influence of pressure and thus allows a continuous determination of the pressure level inside the rheometer.

Aim of the research project
Development of a new type of extrusion rheometer with which the local pressure can be determined along the entire nozzle length. This is to be achieved with a membrane half-shell of the rheometer, which deforms under the influence of pressure and thus allows a continuous determination of the pressure level inside the rheometer. In addition, a model is being developed that describes the pressure dependence of the critical wall shear stress, above which wall sliding occurs. The new rheometer is used to determine the material parameters of the model using the example of various rubber compounds with a tendency to wall slip. The new measuring method is validated by comparison with established capillary rheometers.
