Job offer

Student Assistant for the working group Structural Durability and Vibroacoustics

Student assistant (8 hours per week) wanted: Application of an innovative injection moulding method and novel testing procedures in materials characterisation

Discover how innovative injection moulding and testing methods reveal the properties of fibre-reinforced thermoplastics.

Would you like to practically apply and further develop innovative manufacturing and testing processes?

Fiber-reinforced thermoplastics are characterized by excellent processing properties. Fiber reinforcement allows mechanical properties such as stiffness and strength to be increased in a targeted manner, resulting in great potential to increasingly replace metals as a construction material in structural applications. The resulting weight savings contribute significantly to a more sustainable design of technical products. Since the damage mechanisms under combined mechanical loads are not yet fully understood, the working group has developed novel manufacturing and testing methods that provide a deeper insight into the underlying damage mechanisms. These studies make a valuable contribution to scientific research and at the same time support industrial applications.

Would you like to learn injection molding and material testing and understand the relationship between the manufacturing process and mechanical properties?

In our working group, you can expect a varied and practical job in which you will go through the entire process of plastics processing and testing. As a student trainee, you will be actively involved in injection molding production, test specimen production and subsequent material testing. In addition, you will help develop test setups and carry out the tests, which will allow you to learn and develop new test methods outside of existing standards. A particular focus is on the relationship between the injection molding process, the resulting material structure and the resulting mechanical properties. This gives you the opportunity to directly apply the specialist knowledge you have acquired during your studies, contribute your own ideas and build up valuable skills for a future career in industry or research. You can expect comprehensive training for this.

You are enrolled in a STEM degree program and bring the following with you:

  • Interest in working independently and carefully
  • Motivation to familiarize yourself with a research topic in the long term
  • Willingness to learn new techniques and methods
  • Ideally initial experimental or simulation experience
