HiWi in the injection moulding research area: Direct screwing of thermosets

As a student assistant, you will support our team in current research and industry projects.

In recent years, the requirements for temperature and media resistance of plastic components have increased. Thermosets are materials that, due to their material properties, are capable of meeting these requirements. They exhibit high mechanical strength and stiffness that remain nearly unchanged over a wide temperature range. Unlike thermoplastics, however, thermosets cannot be joined by welding. Screwing thermosets is an alternative to achieve an economical and detachable connection. In this context, direct screwing is a particularly promising approach. Currently, however, there are neither guidelines nor design recommendations that take long-term properties into account when designing a direct screw connection.

You are required to do this:

As part of your work as a student assistant, you will produce test specimens to investigate the direct screwing of thermosets. You will also deal with tasks in the area of filling simulation and the design of tool inserts.

What you should bring with you:

  • Independent, structured and autonomous work
  • Technical or scientific degree (mechanical engineering, materials science, or similar)
  • Interest in long-term cooperation
  • Knowledge in the field of simulation or willingness to familiarise yourself with the field

What we offer you:

  • Varied and challenging activities
  • Collaboration on current research topics
  • Flexible working hours
