OpenFOAM: Take it to the next level!

Extrusion is the most important process for the continuous mass production of semi-finished products and plastic goods. Often, large amounts of plastic waste are generated during production, which could be avoided through improved tool components and a better understanding of the interaction between different process parameters.

About the working group

In the “Extrusion Tools/CAE” working group, new numerical flow and structural simulations are programmed in the open source software OpenFOAM. Optimisation algorithms and high-performance computing also play a role here. Over the years, an extensive code base has accumulated, which can be used to solve a wide variety of problems in simulation-based tool design.

Your tasks:

Your activities will include preparing and maintaining the code base, training new employees in the new in-house solvers and carrying out and evaluating simulations in OpenFOAM. In addition, insights can also be provided into the performance of experimental tests on pilot plants and the design of tools and geometries for simulation purposes. The work areas can be adapted to suit your knowledge and preferences. Project, Bachelor’s or Master’s theses are also possible in the various areas.

We offer you:

  • Collaboration on innovative research topics
  • Varied and challenging activities
  • A pleasant working atmosphere with flexible working hours
  • Contact with partners from research and industry

We expect you to:
