Support us in innovative research and industrial projects for the circular economy
A closed-loop circular economy in the plastics industry is essential in order to fulfil the EU’s measures for less plastic waste in Europe. Mechanical recycling offers great potential, particularly in the area of packaging films, which have short lifetimes.
In order to close the material cycle, various challenges for the use of recyclates in new plastic products have to be overcome, such as strongly fluctuating material properties and contamination with impurities that negatively affect the odor and appearance of the recyclate.
The use of additives and innovative machine technology enables the reduction of these impurities with the aim of opening up new fields of application for recyclates and promoting a sustainable packaging industry. In the working group, we deal with the recycling of film packaging, from shredding, ink removal (de-inking) and processing on the twin-screw extruder through to odor analysis of the recycled products. This involves the use of industrially relevant processing and analysis machines.
